Title: Russell, West Point
Name: Albert Judson Russell
Birth/Death Dates: 1852 - April 15, 1900
Birth/Death Location: Wayne, Ohio / Sierra Madre, California
Notable For: Upon graduating from West Point in 1876, Russell was assigned to the 10th Cavalry. A few days later, he asked to be reassigned to the 7th Cavalry which had just fought the Battle of Little Big Horn. He served in the Army until 1896, when he retired. He contracted TB while in the Army, and his retirement was caused by this disease. Although records are incomplete, he came to Marlborough and taught in the Center School, a one of the one-room school house, in 1870-1871, before his appointment to West Point. After his retirement from the Army, he went to California in hopes of "curing" his TB, but eventually succumbed to the disease.
